The rodent was filmed yesterday (August 7) making its way slowly across an aisle at the Sainsbury’s in Roden Street, before disappearing under a shelf.
The video was posted to the IG1IG3 Instagram page on Thursday (August 7) to the Ratatouille theme music, with the caption “Sainsbury’s sort it out”.
One commenter joked that the mouse appeared to be “making its way towards the cheese flavoured crisps”.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s insisted the mouse in the footage entered from outside and was “immediately removed”.
The spokesperson said: “Food safety is our highest priority and around 95 per cent of our stores hold a five-star food hygiene rating, including our Ilford supermarket.
“We can reassure our customers that the mouse in the footage entered from outside and was immediately removed.”
The Sainsbury’s store in Roden Street had its last food hygiene inspection in August 2024, where it was rated “good” across all areas and “very good” overall.
