The Mayor of London told Times Radio on January 12, 2026 that it was too early to make a decision about running again and that his focus remained on his current responsibilities.
Sir Sadiq said: “The last election I fought is nearer than the next one I may fight, ask me again in a year’s time.
“At this stage in the cycle, I never decide.
“I think it’s an indulgence to focus on my personal ambition rather than this city.
“I’m focused on this city.”
The remarks come after Laila Cunningham was unveiled as Reform UK’s mayoral candidate last week.
During the interview, Sir Sadiq also addressed a proposal from Ms Cunningham to ban burkas.
He said: “In relation to burkas, or the nikab or the hijab, as a man, it’s just wrong for me to tell women what to wear or what not to wear.
“I think it’s a choice for individual women to make in relation to what they wear.
“I wouldn’t dream of telling women what to wear, I think they should have the freedom to choose what to wear.”
Mr Khan was also asked about whether he would consider following Australia’s move to ban social media for anyone under 16.
He said: “I’m not there yet.
“I want to see what happens in Australia in relation to…
“One of the advantages of Australia going first is we we can learn the lessons, good and bad, from what happens in Australia.
“As a parent, I can tell you it was incredibly difficult when my kids were teenagers, controlling their social media.
“They’re more tech-savvy than I am.
“So there are challenges ahead.”
He said the key for now is ensuring Ofcom uses the powers granted by Parliament.
He said: “In the meantime, the good news is, we’ve got a regulator.
“We’ve got Ofcom, who have been given the powers by Parliament to take action.
“So we’ve got to say to Ofcom, what are you doing to take action against the social media companies?”
Speaking to Sky News, Mr Khan offered advice to New York City’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, on dealing with US President Donald Trump.
Sir Sadiq said: “What I would say to anybody is, whether you’re nine-years-old, whether you’re 14-years-old, or whether you’re older – don’t let bullies win.”

The mayor also said he backs the Metropolitan Police’s decision to arrest anyone chanting “globalise the intifada.”
Sir Sadiq said: “My message to Londoners, and those across the country, is to park for a second what the criminal law is.
“Do you really want your neighbours who may be Jewish, your friends who may be Jewish, your colleagues who may be Jewish, being scared?
“That’s what’s happened over the last three years, there’s a heightened fear amongst Jewish people.
“If you are cognisant that what you’re saying is causing concern to your neighbours, don’t say it.
“There are other ways to make your views heard loudly and clearly about what’s happening in Gaza and the West Bank.”
