London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews were called to Rotherhithe Street just before 9am today (December 9) after reports of a medical incident – understood now to be a birth.
An ambulance crew, advanced paramedic and incident response officer were sent to the scene, and the patient was taken to hospital as a priority.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 8.57am today (December 9) to reports of an incident on Rotherhithe Street, SE16.
“We sent resources including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer.
“We treated a patient and took them to hospital as a priority.”
Rotherhithe Street was blocked after the incident, near its junction with St Pauls Avenue, and the bus route C10 was diverted, according to AA Maps.
The London Fire Brigade said it is investigating reports of a “strong smell of gas” in the area, but it is not clear if this is related to the medical incident.
