The fire broke out in Romsey Road near Gale Street just before 4.20am on November 11.
Half of the first floor of a terraced house was damaged by the blaze.
One man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews where he later died.
Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Barking and Dagenham fire stations attended.
The blaze was under control just after 5am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Sadly, a man has died following a house fire on Romsey Road in Dagenham.
“Half of the first floor of a terraced house was damaged by fire. One man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews, where he sadly later died.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received their first call alerting them to the fire at 4.21am.
“They sent three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Barking and Dagenham fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 5.04am.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.”
