The fire broke out in Romsey Road near Gale Street just before 4.20am on November 11.
Jack was taken to Royal London Hospital by ambulance where he died the following the morning.
Senior Coroner Graeme Irvine opened an inquest at East London Coroner’s Court in Walthamstow on Thursday, December 11.
Jack was unresponsive as a result of smoke inhalation when he was found by firefighters on the ground floor of his home address, Mr Irvine said.
The fire was on the first floor of the address, the court heard.
Jack’s cause of death was given as 1a) Global hypoxia ischaemic brain injury and 1b) Smoke inhalation from a house fire.
The London Fire Brigade said half of the first floor of a terraced house was damaged by the blaze.
The force sent three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Barking and Dagenham fire stations to the scene.
The blaze was under control just after 5am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
Mr Irvine said that because Jack’s cause of death was an unnatural cause of death he will be required to carry out a full inquest, which is provisionally scheduled for next year.
