Fourteen-year-old Farzin Shahid was named the winner of the 2025 Design a Dame competition, with her sketch for Dame Trott’s costume chosen from more than 100 entries from across Havering.
The competition invited budding designers to create a costume for the pantomime character, who will star in the theatre’s upcoming festive production of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Farzin entered the competition through a school workshop and will now get to attend design meetings with the show’s professional designer before seeing her design brought to life on stage.
She said: “I am thrilled to have won this creative competition, designing outfits has always been of great interest to me.
“Seeing my vision come to reality gives me new hope.”
Gemma Compton, designer for Jack and the Beanstalk, added: “The creativity, imagination, and attention to detail shown by these young designers was truly inspiring – there are definitely some future costume designers out there.
“It was a tough decision to choose just one winner, but the winning design stood out for its clear understanding of costume and panto, and for the brilliant way it captured the spirit of Romford Market.”
Jack and the Beanstalk runs at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch from November 19 to January 3.
