Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was seen at an Orpington pie and mash shop.
The football legend was spotted at Scott’s Tradition Pie & Mash, where he sampled the traditional East End food on Wednesday (August 6).
The shop expressed their excitement at his visit, saying it was a “pleasure to welcome” the former England captain.
The pie and mash shop added: “Come back anytime, Rio – pie and mash is always on us.”
According to the National Football Museum, Ferdinand, known for his elegant playing style, grew up in Peckham and joined West Ham United’s academy after spending years at ballet school.
He made his first-team debut for the Hammers in 1996, aged just 17.
Alongside fellow West Ham prospect Frank Lampard, he was invited to train with the Euro 96 squad by Terry Venables.
The following year, he made his debut for the senior England team.
Throughout his career, Ferdinand earned 81 caps for England.
He also captained the national team on many occasions.
After leaving West Ham, Ferdinand went on to play for Leeds United before being signed by Manchester United in 2002.
He retired from professional football in 2015 after a spell at Queens Park Rangers.
