Richmond, known for its picturesque setting on the River Thames, has been highlighted by property site RentLondonFlat after analysing official crime data from the Metropolitan Police.
With a crime rate of just 54 offences per 1,000 residents, Richmond has the lowest recorded crime level in London, meaning only around five per cent of people living there are affected by crime each year.
This figure stands well below the London average of 133 crimes per 1,000 residents.
The town’s history stretches back to the 16th century when it was established as a royal retreat for monarchs.
Today, this legacy of calm continues with Richmond offering residents and visitors a rare combination of urban convenience and tranquil green spaces.
Richmond Park, one of the largest Royal Parks in London, attracts thousands each weekend who come to enjoy its wide-open spaces, ancient woodlands, and herds of wild deer.
The riverside walkways also provide a popular spot for walking, cycling, and riverside dining, with favourites such as Petersham Nurseries Café and The White Cross pub drawing locals and visitors alike.
Beyond its natural beauty, Richmond is a vibrant town centre filled with boutique shops, cafes, and a mix of restaurants, from traditional English pubs like The Cricketers to fine dining options such as The Ivy Richmond.
RentLondonFlat said Richmond’s social scene draws a diverse crowd including families, young professionals, and celebrities.
Transport links are another major draw, with Richmond station providing direct train services to London Waterloo in approximately 20 minutes, as well as connections to Clapham Junction and London Bridge.
The area is also well served by bus routes, including the 65, 371, and 33, which connect Richmond with neighbouring towns like Kingston, Twickenham, and Hounslow.
Richmond is home to several well-regarded schools, including The Vineyard School and St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary School, both praised by Ofsted for their strong academic results and community involvement.
Schools are supported by community events such as the Richmond May Fair and the annual Richmond Christmas Market.
Bexley, Kingston, Sutton, and Harrow were all named in the top five by RentLondonFlat.
