And with our four-year-old being a big fan of building with the bricks, we decided to pay a visit.
Being the school holidays, Discover felt quite busy but there was plenty of room to play.
In the Lego area, base plates of various sizes were stuck to the tables while a whole range of pieces – from wheels to minifigures and a wide selection of different size and colour bricks – were in a few brightly coloured towers dotted around.
Our son had great fun trying to create a bridge between two base plates, though we struggled to find enough unused wheel pieces to create a vehicle to go across it.
Our one-year-old playing with a tunnel (Image: Sophie Cox) For little builders, including our one-year-old, there were large tubs of Duplo on the floor and she enjoyed building a tower and pushing a motorbike around.
The Story Street also had several tents offering other activities, including one with musical instruments where a show was performed during one part of the afternoon.
Our children particularly liked a tent that had a tunnel and soft blocks in, as well as a little rocker that our youngest loved.
We didn’t stay out there all day as we had a storytelling session of Supertato, one of our son’s favourite book series.
This one-person show saw the picture book brought to life, and both our children – as well as other youngsters in the room – were entranced. The audience of mostly pre-schoolers joined in with elements of the show when encouraged, waving their own vegetables and calling out excitedly.
We also explored some of Discover’s regular offering, which has plenty of activities to suit children of different ages.
Our one-year-old spent a good chunk of time scrambling up stairs and coming back down the indoor slide, while our four-year-old bounced around between a range of activities, practicing his number and letter recognition as well as hoisting a flag, drawing and engaging in imaginative play with children of a similar age he had befriended.
With other activities including an outdoor play area, an array of books to read and a craft table, youngsters have plenty of chances to explore their own interests. While we didn’t have time to check it out on this occasion, Discover also has a special Monster Funfair-themed exhibition running.
Story Street x the Lego Group runs at Discover until Sunday, August 31. For more and to book, visit discover.org.uk
