Teenagers from 11 Redbridge secondary schools planned for the new term and greener living after Eco Skills workshops run by the local authority’s youth climate forum.
These included a repair workshop to encourage fixing instead of discarding broken items and a biodiversity workshop on how plants can benefit the environment.
“Young people are aware of the challenges facing the planet,” Redbridge Council leader Kam Rai said.
“Everyone has a role to play in tackling climate change and reduce waste by recycling more and repairing items to cut down on landfill and reduce the environmental impact of producing new items.”
The Redbridge youth forum works towards a Unicef-recognised child friendly borough where the needs, priorities and the rights of the next generation play a part in today’s public policies and decision-making.
