Brentwood Borough Council installed the new displays outside Brentwood Town Hall to replace those originally installed in 2009.
The project was funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and forms part of a programme aiming to celebrate and promote Brentwood’s heritage and creativity.
Councillor Dr Tim Barrett, chair of housing, health and community committee , said: “It’s essential that we continue to create opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with Brentwood’s rich and fascinating heritage.
“The original lecterns proved highly popular among passers-by and visitors to the town hall, with many taking time to read and appreciate the information showcasing the borough’s cultural wealth.
“We trust that the new lecterns will inspire a renewed sense of pride in our community and serve as a celebration of Brentwood’s distinctive identity and uniqueness.”
The lecterns highlight individuals who have made significant contributions to the borough’s political, scientific, artistic, literary, and sporting heritage.
Much of the original content and illustrations by local historian John Fryer have been retained, with new updates covering events from 2009 to 2025.
These include the 2012 Olympic torch relay in Brentwood and local celebrations of the coronation of King Charles III.
Each lectern now features a brass rubbing plaque to offer an interactive element for visitors.
Brass rubbing sheets and crayons will be available free of charge from the town hall reception.
