Havering Council has proposed installing a new zebra crossing outside 320 Upminster Road North, Rainham.
The proposed crossing would be located slightly down the road from the entrance to Rainham Cemetery, as well as the Allen Road bus stop.
While the council said it intends to “improve safety for everyone” on the road, the crossing is particularly aimed at “vulnerable road users, including those with limited mobility”.
Residents can have their say on the plan, via the council’s consultation webpage, until January 30.
Any feedback on the proposals will be taken in to consideration before any formal decision is made on the scheme, the council said.
Road safety improvements have previously targeted this area of Rainham, with the council drawing up plans for a new staggered pedestrian crossing along both Upminster Road North and Upminster Road South in June 2025.
This was part of a range of upgrades proposed for the junction of New Road, Upminster Road North and Upminster Road South after the council found that vehicles on New Road “regularly” breach the speed limit.
