The explosion in Queens Road was reported to the Metropolitan Police at 10.10am this morning (November 17).
Officers were dispatched to the scene alongside the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service.
A van was located nearby, with pictures seen by this paper revealing damage and objects strewn across the floor of an underground car park.
The side of the vehicle has been blown through, with the force appearing to have pushed open the rear doors.
Officers understand that the contents of the van exploded after it is believed to have hit the roof of the car park.
The driver, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital where his injuries are being assessed.
The incident is not being treated as terror-related.
A Met spokesperson said: “At 10:10hrs on Monday, 17 November, officers responded to reports of an explosion on Queens Road, Wimbledon.

“Police, the London Ambulance Service, and the London Fire Brigade attended the scene and found that the contents of a van had exploded after the vehicle is believed to have struck the roof of a car park.
“The driver, a man in his 60s, was injured and taken to hospital, where his injuries are being assessed.
“This incident is ongoing and is not believed to be terror-related.”
