Margaret Mullane, MP for Dagenham and Rainham, has started a petition to help secure the investment.
The A&E at the hospital – part of Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) – was designed to support 325 patients a day, but the trust says it now regularly sees more than double its capacity.

Ms Mullane said she has been “working to improve services” at Queen’s since she was elected last year, and hopes the hospital can boost capacity and bring down waiting times if the funding is secured.
“I’ve visited, spoken with the senior leadership, and I have had private conversations with ministers to try and secure the investment our hospital needs,” Ms Mullane said.
“The goal of my campaign is to highlight both the significant issues facing Queen’s Hospital and to show the strength of feeling on this issue in the community.”

BHRUT previously launched its own campaign to secure the £35million funding needed to “transform” the department, with the trust’s chief executive Matthew Trainer calling it “inadequate”.
It has had the backing of Romford MP Andrew Rosindell, MP for Hornchurch and Upminster Julia Lopez, and Barking MP Nesil Caliskan.
In reaction to this latest show of support from an MP, Mr Trainer said: “We are grateful for the support of our MPs as we campaign to get the £35m we need to build an A&E that will improve patient care, provide better working conditions for our staff, and put an end to the indignity of corridor care.”
He added that the trust has seen “record breaking” numbers of people using its A&Es in March, which has put more pressure on the “cramped and undersized” emergency department at Queen’s.
