Police were originally called to Putney Bridge at around 7.20am today (March 31) to reports of a concern for welfare.
The bridge was shut both ways, causing congestion to Putney High School and back along Putney Hill, Fulham High Street and Fulham Palace Road.
It is estimated that the bridge eventually reopened at some point between 10.40am and 11.40am.
Officers then arrested a man, aged 42, and he has been taken to custody.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “A man, aged 42, was arrested for causing public nuisance and has since been taken to custody.
“The full bridge has since been reopened”
