The north London park, normally a popular spot to watch the celebrations, has been closed by The Royal Parks and will be locked until 6am on Thursday, January 1.
The Met Police is coordinating a city-wide operation and has advised the public to stay away from parks and head to organised events instead.
Some have described the temporary fencing as “grotesque,” while others have said the measure is necessary to manage the growing crowds.

One said the hill has become increasingly busy each year, adding: “The stabbing drew attention to it, but won’t be the main reason it’s getting closed.
“They need to be able to get medical care to people who need it and manage the crowd to prevent crushes.”
Another said the cost and logistics of managing the crowds meant closure made sense.
The Royal Parks has clarified that there are “no official viewing areas for the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve firework display in any of the Royal Parks” and that visitors should not head to the area without a ticket.

In 2023, 16-year-old Harry Pitman was fatally stabbed at Primrose Hill while watching the fireworks, leading to heightened safety concerns.
Areece Lloyd-Hall, 18, was sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison in November for the murder.
Commander Nick John, who is leading the Met Police’s New Year’s Eve operation, said: “We would encourage the public to avoid parks such as Primrose Hill that will be closed, and instead spend their evening at one of the many organised events taking place across London.”
The Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display is sold out, with police urging people not to try to attend without a ticket.
