On Sunday (August 24), the Poundland store in Whitechapel Road closed its doors for the last time, reported MyLondon.
The branch opened in October 2022 according to a report from Talking Retail.
In June, the discount retail chain said it planned to permanently shut 68 shops after being sold by Pepco Group to Peach Bidco, a subsidiary of private equity firm Gordon Brothers.
The company had already permanently closed 10 locations on August 10 and 15 more on August 17 whilst 12 more stores shut on August 24.
Poundland’s retail director Darren MacDonald told MyLondon: “It is of course, sincerely regrettable that our recovery plans include any store closures, but sadly that’s necessary if we’re to achieve our goal of securing the future of thousands of jobs and hundreds of stores.
“It goes without saying that we will work closely with colleagues through a formal consultation process in stores scheduled to close, exploring any suitable alternative roles.
“That work is underway.”
