Ryan’s bar in Stoke Newington Church Street served its final punters on Sunday, December 28 after 32 years.
Owner Ged revealed the news on Instagram on Christmas Eve with a photograph of a pint of Guinness on a table.
He wrote: “After 32 great years it is time to say goodbye to Ryan’s N16. We will be pulling our final pints from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday the 28th of December, 2025.
“We want to thank all our lovely customers for the memories and boy there are a few! We hope to see some of you Sunday to say goodbye.”
Responses revealed how much the watering hole will be missed in the North London neighbourhood, with one writing: “St Patrick’s won’t be the same without a pint with Ged and the crew – thanks for the memories and best of luck. Slainte!!”
A post from fellow Stoke Newington pub The Three Crowns read: “Gutted to hear this 😢 Stokey wont be the same without you. Wishing you and the team all the best for whatever comes next.”
On its website, Ryan’s said it was a proudly “family-owned, independent and community-focused” pub serving a wide range of wines, craft ales alongside a good pint of Guinness and a food offer courtesy of Yard Sale Pizza.
There was also a large hidden beer garden and screenings of live sports from Premiership football to GAA games alongside community events such as a chess club, Irish language classes, karaoke and live music.
According to the Campaign for Real Ale website, the building and adjoining former 19th Century draper’s shop were Grade II-listed in 1975.
It had operated as a pub since the 1980s with previous names including La Manch and the Vestry – but there is no details on why Ryan’s was closing or what might be next for the pub.
