Police were called to Plashet Grove on Saturday (June 14) at 6.15pm after reports of an altercation.
Officers found a man in his 20s with stab wounds and administered first aid before medics arrived.
He was taken to and remains in hospital, where his injuries were found to be life-changing but non-life threatening.
No arrests have been made but police are increasing patrols in the area.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “An investigation has been launched following a stabbing in Newham.
“Around 18:15hrs on Saturday, 14 June, officers attended Plashet Grove, Newham, after reports of an altercation. A man in his 20s had suffered stab wounds. Officers administered first aid, and a London Ambulance Service crew attended.
“The victim was taken to hospital, where he remains. His injuries were assessed as life-changing but non-life-threatening.
“No arrests have been made at this stage, and officers are making urgent enquiries to trace the suspect.
“Officers have stepped up patrols in the local area as reassurance to the local community.”
