Animal abandonment numbers are rising across London with the RSPCA revealing a 20 per cent increase in the capital since the cost-of-living crisis began.
This has left plenty of dogs, cats and other species looking for permanent homes.
Charities in Havering are appealing to find homes for these animals that are currently available for adoption.
Cade
According to Wanderers Haven Animal Sanctuary, Cade is “very enthusiastic when meeting new people and can be overwhelming for some, therefore a family who are confident and experienced in handling dogs is preferred”.
Cade is crate trained and food motivated which makes training easy, the charity said.
He also “loves snuggling down with his dog and human friends in an evening”.
Bello
Bello is currently living with Pippa’s Army Animal Rescue after being found as a stray.
As you can see, Bello has no ears. This is because he had cancer on the tips of his ears so they were removed to stop the spread.
According to Pippa’s Army, Bello hasn’t been dog tested yet and would prefer to be the only cat in the household – he loves toys though so make sure you are well stocked.
Sonny
Wanderers Haven found Sonny down a country line amongst fly-tipped rubbish – he was apparently “extremely scared and shut down”.
The group have brought Sonny out of his shell and can confirm that he is now a “very daft, loving and lively boy”.
Sonny will need to live in a home with another medium-sized dog and will require multiple visits from potential adopters to build a bond.
“We know he will settle into a new home – he just needs time and patience.”
Rolo and Fuzzy
Rolo and Fuzzy are a pair of male and female bonded guinea pigs looking for a new home.
The pair would love a home where they have space to move around and enrichment is provided so they don’t get bored.
Wanderers Haven do note that they will not rehome small animals to homes where “children are expected to take responsibility and then the animal is returned as the novelty wore off”.
Saskia
Saskia is only ten months old and a “loving, friendly young lady who loves to be cuddled and fussed but is not suitable for young children as she can get over excited and play bite”, according to Pippa’s Army.
She was brought to Pippa’s Army with a leg injury which resulted in amputation but has since made a “remarkable recovery and is charging around like a loon”.
Soda and Spike
According to Pippa’s Army, Soda and Spike didn’t have the best start to life and are still on the nervous side – “they look to each other for love and support so they must go together”.
At only four months old, the pair would prefer a quieter home with older people or cat-savvy kids and ideally no other pets.
Eric
Last but by no means least, we have Eric. Described by Wanderers Haven as “a real gentleman” Eric can be initially timid of new people but once familiar with his surroundings he is a “very happy and playful boy”.
Eric could be the only dog in a new home but would also be happy living alongside a confident female dog.
Wanderers Haven said: “Eric is a perfectly adoptable dog and we would love to see him settled in a new home.
“With the team here, he loves us and he really is no trouble. It’s just a case of getting to know each other, building a bond and knowing how to manage certain behaviours.”
