Havering Council has proposed the new zebra crossing in Pettits Lane, Romford, just before its junction with Main Road.
A council study found that 14 accidents in which people were injured have been recorded at the junction.
The data showed that 1,700 vehicles per hour use Main Road – regularly recording speeds of up to 40 mph. The council did not say when this study was carried out or for how long.
This proposal is part of a wider safety improvement scheme for the junction, which will include zigzag markings either side of the crossing.

There will also be a yellow box in front of both Pettits Lane and Erroll Road, and right turns from Main Road into Erroll Road will be banned.
An existing crossing at the corner of Erroll Road is also set to be widened.
Funding is being provided by Transport for London (TfL).
It comes after TfL decided not to install a new crossing at another busy junction in Mawney Road – a decision some councillors called “irresponsible”.
TfL previously told this paper it was “looking carefully” at the issues raised about the Mawney Road junction, but was “currently prioritising other locations” due to its “limited resources”.
Havering Council is running a public consultation on the scheme until July 18, with residents invited to share their views via email to schemes@havering.gov.uk, quoting the reference QX005.
The council has also opened a consultation on a new pedestrian crossing as part of a similar safety improvement scheme in Rainham
