It comes after police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance in Bermondsey in May 2024.
PC Ben Hanscombe, based at Peckham police station, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after it was alleged that excessive force was used whilst detaining a man.

The incident was referred to police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), in June that same year.
After the report was investigated, a file of evidence was passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service which then authorised the charge.
The 26-year-old officer will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 15 in connection to the charge.
