Police had tried to stop a car on Palmerstone Road at 11.10am, which kept driving on.
It resulted in it crashing with two other vehicles, one of which understood to be a bus.
The driver was then arrested but taken to hospital as a precaution.
However his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
According to the London Ambulance Service, six people had been treated by medics, two of whom were taken to hospital and discharged with minor injuries.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At 11.10am on Sunday (January 5) a car failed to stop for a marked police vehicle on Palmerstone Road, E17.
“The car subsequently collided with two other vehicles. The occupants of the other vehicles sustained minor injuries.
“The driver of the vehicle that failed to stop for police has been arrested.
“As a precautionary measure he was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
“The road remains closed to traffic while police investigate the collision.”
