Padel, a racket sport played on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court, has grown in popularity in recent years.
Last year, Padel Social Club opened two outdoor courts at the O2, with an indoor venue with five courts set to open at the site later this year.
Now the club has lodged a new planning application with Greenwich Council asking for permission to build a further three outdoor courts at the arena.
Padel Social Club says that there are currently a limited number of courts in London, with no other venues offering the sport in the borough of Greenwich.

They claim that the latest plans have the support of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
“There is a current demand for the sport which indicates the need for increased provision,” planning documents state.
“Padel Social Club offers courts on a pay-and-play basis, and would not be linked to any membership club, ensuring full access to the public and local community.”
They explain that the O2 has a significant tennis history, having previously hosted the ATP Tour finals.
“The opportunity now arises for the permanent use of this brownfield land for sport and recreation use, and a further leisure opportunity for North Greenwich,” they add.
