Orchard Hill College (OCH) was praised following a full inspection of its specialist post-16 SEND provision across London and Surrey.
The college, which supports more than 500 students aged 16 to 25, received the highest grade in every inspection category, including quality of education, leadership, and personal development.
Operating centres in Sutton, Croydon and most recently Wallington, with the opening of Carew Academy, OCH and its associated academy were praised for their carefully tailored and ambitious curriculum.
Inspectors noted that the education students receive is consistently high quality, with many making exceptional progress toward both academic and personal goals.
Since its last inspection in 2019, the college has expanded, opening four new centres and introducing supported internships.
Student numbers have more than doubled, particularly in response to growing demand for post-16 provision for learners with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Teaching across the college was described as highly effective, with staff using a range of strategies to support learning.
These include sensory stories, sign language, visual aids, and verbal instruction, helping students to grasp complex ideas in a way that meets their individual needs.
Real-life modelling is used in employability programmes to prepare students for the workplace, including lessons on appropriate dress and safety procedures.
Inspectors also praised the college’s use of assistive technology to help students communicate and build independence.
Staff also work with families to ensure these tools can be used at home, extending learning beyond the classroom.
Behaviour and attendance were highlighted as strengths, with students showing high levels of engagement and respect.
Staff were praised for setting clear expectations and for their skill in managing behaviour supportively and respectfully.
They also found that students across all sites enjoyed learning in inclusive, welcoming environments.
A wide range of enrichment activities, such as theatre trips, residentials, and even a college-run nightclub, help build confidence and social skills.
The curriculum also includes education about healthy relationships, sexual health, and emotional well-being.
Staff use age-appropriate scenarios and role-play to help students understand their bodies and emotions and how to stay safe both offline and online.
Kelly Phillips, Executive Principal of Orchard Hill College, said: “As highlighted in our Outstanding Ofsted report, Orchard Hill College continues to strive for ever greater standards for our staff and students, and we are all extremely proud to be recognised in this way; it is a tribute to everyone.
“As a leading SEND provider in communities across London and Surrey, the report is an accurate reflection of the high-quality educational experience we provide students.”
