The man, aged in his 20s, was rushed to hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning (March 15) after the incident in Old Street.
Police were initially called to the scene at 2.20am to reports of an assault, but the man was found with a stab wound to his groin.
Initially described as being in a critical condition, police have now confirmed that the man is expected to survive, but that his injuries are thought to be “life-changing”.
Yesterday, a police spokesperson said that four people had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but have since clarified that only three people were arrested.
The trio – two men and a woman, all aged in their 30s – were stopped close to Shoreditch Park around 50 minutes after the incident took place. They remain in custody.
London Ambulance Service said that it sent an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene.
A trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance also responded to the incident. Paramedics arrived less than four minutes after the first callout.
Old Street was shut to traffic by a large police cordon which stretched from the junctions with Charlotte Road and Curtain Road until around 5pm yesterday afternoon.
Charlotte Road was also shut by police. The cordon had forced the diversion of bus routes 55 and 243.
