On the morning of July 5, volunteers, and staff from Asda’s Southgate Circus store united with Friends of Oakwood Park for a community litter pick at Oakwood Park in Southgate.
The event took place on July 5 and 15 bags of litter were collected. (Image: Sejal Shah) The group managed to collect around 15 bags of litter, which included plastic bottles, crisp wrappers, balloons, cigarette butts, and other discarded items.
Community champion Sejal Shah said: “Asda Southgate Circus Store and I want to show we care and value our shared spaces and are willing to take action to keep them looking their best.
The initiative involved more than 350 Asda stores nationwide. (Image: Sejal Shah) “By organising the litter pick at Oakwood Park, we helped keep it clean and tidy and collected as much rubbish as we could to help make a positive difference in our local area.
“We are very passionate about keeping our community spaces clean and tidy.”
The effort was part of Asda’s initiative involving more than 350 stores nationwide, encouraging communities to take pride in their local areas.
The event was attended by 21 volunteers, including Enfield Council leader Councillor Ergin Erbil.

“It’s great to see local businesses like Asda Southgate Circus are supporting the community with this litter pick and care about our open spaces.
“Your support means a lot to us.”
A meeting with volunteers and Friends of Oakwood Park took place before the litter pick to discuss future projects for the park.

Ms Shah said: “The litter pick was great; we collected 15 bags of litter and walked almost 12,367 steps.
“It was great working together as a team and sharing our ideas with each other and helping make Oakwood Park a cleaner, greener, and safer place for our community.”
The litter pick was followed by refreshments and healthy snacks.
Ms Shah concluded: “Thank you to all who joined in and well done.”
