Police are investigating the incident, which happened in the Thornhill area of North Weald in June.
It was reported that a man had convinced a woman to hand over a five-figure sum in cash.
Essex Police and have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.
The force urged anyone with information to contact them , quoting crime reference number 42/782248/25.
