Corbil Planning, on behalf of applicant Seetha Creations, has put forward proposals for a four-storey rear extension to the former Scottish Mutual House at 27-29 North Street.
The extension would be made up of seven flats in total, consisting of two one-bed, four three-bed and one four-bed units.
The former office building has already been converted into residential flats after a prior approval application was granted by Havering Council in 2021, with 20 homes now rented out by the applicant.

A further five flats are set to be built in a single storey upper-floor extension by April 2026, after prior approval was granted in 2023.

However, the planning statement reveals that the back of the site – previously used for parking – was left “relatively unencumbered” by these developments.
As such, Seetha Creations claims it offers a “tremendous opportunity” to add to the building, while also “safeguard[ing] the amenity of existing flats”.
Parking would be kept at the front of the site, but cycle storage for 20 bikes is also proposed as part of the extension.
There would be no change to the appearance of the building at the front, as it is five-storeys tall and the extension would be four-storeys tall.
Havering Council is expected to make a decision on the plans by August 25.
