Around 7,400 workers from 66 firms across London have been repaid by their employers, including well-known high street brands, with fines totalling around £1.6 million for breaking the rules.
The Government says it is taking direct action to make work pay as part of its Plan for Change, which aims to overhaul workers’ rights, and has returned approximately £6 million to workers.
Employment rights minister Kate Dearden said: “This government is taking direct action to ensure workers get every penny they’ve earned, and to put an end to bad businesses undercutting good ones.
“We are proud to have delivered a strong minimum wage and enforcing it thoroughly is crucial in our mission to put pounds back in your pocket.
“I know this news will be welcomed by brilliant businesses across the country, those who know that happy well-paid staff are at the heart of building a successful company.”

The McErnest Company Ltd, WC1A, underpaid one worker by £1,872.20.

WGC Ltd, London Borough of Hackney, N1, failed to pay £62,112.33 to 1,064 workers.
Haringey

Amy Pharma Ltd, N8, failed to pay two workers £1,144.24.
