The first phase of Haringey Council’s £22million Noel Park modernising scheme has been completed with 100 properties upgraded with new roofs, windows and street doors for insulation to make them more energy efficient.
The project also includes new fitted kitchens and bathrooms as well as external brickwork repairs.
There are another 130 properties to go in the upgrade programme for the housing that was built in the late 19th to early-20th centuries.
Council leader Peray Ahmet dropped in to the Noel Park scheme in her own ward to see the improvements first hand.
“We are able to invest in existing homes despite many pressures,” Cllr Ahmet said.
“Noel Park is one of our most significant improvement schemes which is moving us closer to our target of bringing all council properties up to decent homes standard by 2028.”
Haringey claims to be on track to complete 3,000 new homes by 2031, built to today’s environmental standards, with 2,000 more underway or completed.
A retrofit of 200 homes is also about to get started on Muswell Hill’s Coldfall housing estate and at Tower Gardens in Tottenham to make them energy efficient, cutting bills for low-income families.
A target of all council housing to meet decent homes standard within the next three years has been set, with funds put by to include fitted kitchens and replacing roofs, windows and doors for insulation.
