The fire broke out in a mid-terraced property of two floors in Nithdale Road just before 1.50am today (April 14).
Crews rescued a woman from the property however, she was later declared dead at the scene.
The blaze was under control just before 2.40am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Sadly a woman has died following a house fire on Nithdale Road, Plumstead.
“The fire occurred in a mid-terraced property of two floors, damaging the part of the ground floor.
“Crews rescued a woman from the property, but she was sadly later declared dead at the scene by a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service team.
“The Brigade was first called about the incident at 0148, and crews from Plumstead, Eltham, and Sidcup fire stations were sent to the scene. Firefighters had the incident under control by 0239.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.”
