A new £4.75m trialling centre is opening where they will get quick access to the latest advances in treatments.
Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), Barts Health NHS Trust and Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have joined forces on the centre.
The trusts between them run Royal London, Bart’s, Mile End, Homerton, Whipps Cross, Newham, King George and Queen’s hospitals.
The new facility is being set up at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and is one of 14 of its kind nationwide.
BHRUT chief medical officer Andrew Deaner said: “We are hugely excited about this project and the potential to increase the amount of clinical research we do at our trust, while giving our patients quicker access to advanced treatments.
“It’s also key that it will help us to address health inequalities and ensure more of our diverse groups of patients have access to clinical trials.”
The centre is expected to be up and running by April, doubling the number of patients recruited to join trials over the next three years and reducing the time it takes to set up new studies.
