A major operation by the Home Office’s immigration enforcement teams has seen 60 delivery riders across the country detained for removal from the UK – four of whom were arrested in Newham.
Officers were deployed to a high street in the borough on November 17 as part of the week-long crackdown, where they found four riders of Bangladeshi and Indian nationality to be working illegally.
All four were arrested and later detained for removal, according to the Home Office.

Border security minister Alex Norris said: “These results should send a clear message: if you are working illegally in this country, you will be arrested and removed.
“This action is part of the most sweeping changes to illegal migration in modern times to reduce the incentives that draw illegal migrations here and scale up removals.”
The operation follows the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill receiving royal assent on Tuesday, December 2 – allowing for the introduction of new laws which will expand right to work checks on delivery riders.
According to the government, almost 50,000 people with no right to be in the country have been removed since July 2024, while people smuggling arrests, convictions and seizures have increased by 33 per cent in the past 12 months.
