Newham Council said the Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSM) assessment found that more than seven in ten residents of council homes are satisfied with the service they receive.
This is a significant increase from last year and places Newham above the London average, the authority added.
The TSM assessment is used to determine how residents are treated by social housing landlords in England.
It takes into account several factors, including the number of complete repairs, the safety of homes, and the communication between landlords and tenants.
The assessment found that Newham is surpassing the London average in various areas, such as complaint handling and speed of repairs.
The overall satisfaction rate has jumped from 59 per cent in 2023/24 to 71pc.
It comes after “very serious failings” were found in Newham’s housing service at an inspection last year, when a C4 grading was given by the Regulator of Social Housing.
Almost two-thirds of council tenants (63pc) are satisfied with how the council listens to their views and acts upon them, an increase from the previous year’s 54pc
More than 84pc of respondents believe that the council, as a landlord, treats them fairly and with respect.
Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, said: “These results are a welcome sign that the council’s housing service is resolutely focused on the improvements that we demand for our residents.
“I have been clear that our residents must feel the impact of the changes that have been put in place since last year when the council received its C4 judgement from the Regulator of Social Housing.
“While noting the progress we have made so far, we are not complacent and there is more progress to come.
“I want to ensure that every resident living in a council home has the confidence in our housing services and that they live in a decent and safe house.”
The nationwide assessment, which evaluates the performance of social housing landlords in England, was conducted in person with Newham tenants between January 20 and March 6 this year.
A new housing service improvement plan has been put in place and the full TSM results can be found on the council’s website.
