Emergency services were called to New Road at around 8.10am on Wednesday, April 23, following reports of a crash involving two pedestrians.
A 35-year-old woman and her 10-year-old child were struck by a car and taken to hospital.
While their injuries are not considered life-threatening, police confirmed the child’s injuries could be life changing.
No other injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.
Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
During the incident, New Road was closed into town from B178 Ballards Road, near McDonald’s, to Heathway.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by London Ambulance Service at 08:10hrs on Wednesday, 23 April following reports of a road traffic collision in Dagenham.
“Officers attended the scene at New Road, where a car had been in collision with two pedestrians.
“A 35-year-old woman and her 10-year-old child were taken to a trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The child’s injuries are potentially life-changing.
“No-one else was injured in the incident and no arrests have been made.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
