An anonymous source told the News Shopper that at the B&M branch located at Unit 2, New Cross Gate Retail Park, products were allegedly still being placed on the shop floor despite the issue.
The source also claimed there was a strong smell of urine on the shop floor.
It is understood the matter was escalated to the Environmental Health Office (EHO), which closed the store on October 8, 2025, due to significant health and hygiene concerns.
According to the source, the branch remains closed while a full deep clean and pest control treatment are carried out, including the removal of droppings and contaminated stock.
A spokesperson for B&M confirmed that the New Cross Gate store was “voluntarily closed” to carry out a review.
The spokesperson said: “At B&M we have strong policies to promote high food hygiene standards across our stores.
“Our New Cross Gate store was voluntarily closed to carry out a review as our high store standards were not met on this occasion.
“We are working quickly to implement any necessary changes.”
