Earlier this year, neighbours reacted in anger after dozens of trees appeared to have been cut down close to Emerson Park station on the Liberty line between Romford and Upminster.
At the time, Network Rail was accused of “woodland destruction” and failing to notify residents of the works.
But Havering Green party co-ordinator Ruth Kettle-Frisby has now confirmed that a deal has been struck which will see new trees planted later this year.
“We really wanted a resolution,” she said. “We didn’t want something antagonistic developing because what we want is to protect our local environment.
“While we will stay vigilant, we are really encouraged by the positive work that Network Rail want to do.”

She added that plans are expected to be finalised by the end of September, with the aim of planting new trees during National Tree Week at the end of November.
It is understood that the types of trees planted will be chosen with the aim of enhancing biodiversity and beautifying the area.
“We are also trying to choose trees that don’t meet the same destiny,” Ms Kettle-Frisby said.
“We don’t want to plant trees that are just going to be felled all over again.
“We’re just trying to pick optimal trees that will thrive and preclude the likelihood of disease.”
She added that she hoped the collaborative approach between Network Rail and neighbours would ensure greater “transparency and accountability” moving forward, including notification of any future tree felling.
Network Rail has been approached for comment.
Following a backlash to tree felling in January, a spokesperson said: “We have undertaken a tree survey and identified 35 to 40 trees between Romford and Upminster that require cutting back or removing.
“We want to reassure residents that we are only removing or cutting back trees that pose a danger to the safe running of the railway.
“We accept that our communication should have been better and we’re sorry for the upset this may have caused.
“We are writing to those residents where work is still to be carried out and that the correct processes are being followed.”
