The multi-use games area (MUGA) was officially launched on Thursday, June 25 at Meridian High School in Croydon, and is now available for both school use and the wider community.
The area was opened on June 25. (Image: Meridian High School) Headteacher Amy Anderson said: “It’s brilliant to see the wonderful new pitch now officially opened, and we’re very grateful indeed for all the kind and generous support we’ve had to make this dream become a reality.
“I know that students, staff, families and the local community are delighted to have such an excellent sports facility right here at our school.”
The project was supported by the Wade family in memory of Martin Wade, who has since passed away.
Jak Martin, head of the GLF Schools Foundation, said: “This is a fantastic example of how the school and the community can both benefit from a brand-new sports facility.
“At the GLF Schools Foundation, we want everyone to have access to opportunities and be able to take part in a variety of team sports games and activities, and we know this facility will be enjoyed for many years to come.”
During the opening event, students demonstrated the versatility of the new facility by taking part in football and cricket sessions.
A spokesperson for the Wade family said: “The fact that this excellent new sports pitch will be enjoyed by so many young people is fantastic.
“We are delighted to see the tremendous boost this new facility gives to sports and activities both at the school and in the local community.”
