Taste of Nawab recently won Best Chef of the Year at the 2025 Curry Life Awards when visionary owner Abdul Rahman was handed the prize by one of his best customers – children’s author Michael Rosen.
Abdul’s commitment to authentic Bangladeshi and Indian cuisine, combined with a strong sense of community, has established the Muswell Hill restaurant as a local institution for more than 29 years.

Now his food has earned glowing praise from the Labour MP who paid a visit to the curry house in Colney Hatch Lane to congratulate him on his award.
The MP for Hornsey and Friern Barnet, said: “I’m so proud to be here to celebrate a very successful curry house and I’d like to thank all that Nawab’s does here for the community.
“In this wonderful restaurant, which serves delicious, nutritious food at good prices, community comes first.”
Abdul revealed that Ms West was also one of his customers – with the prawn puree one of her favourite dishes.
He said: “I’m delighted to welcome my MP who has been really supportive to local businesses. She loves curry and the food we serve and has previously dined at Taste of Nawab, with the Prawn Puree one of her favourite starters.”
Abdul has previously worked as an executive chef and personally trained all the cooks in his kitchen. Over the years he has scooped numerous awards for his food which blends classics from across India with unique dishes from his kitchen experiments.
And he has also given back to the community, handing out free food during a power cut earlier this year and donating to local schools and charities.
Customer satisfaction is also key to the success of the 34 seat BYO restaurant where diners have also included EastEnders actor Michelle Collins, Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet, and Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman.
Abdul sees his customers as part of an extended community – telling the Ham&High after earning his award in October: “This award is a community award.
“We are grateful to our loyal customers and the support they have always given us, they are the backbone of everything. Without our community it would never have been possible to have achieved all of this.”
