At around 12.55pm on Tuesday, April 1, officers from Thames Valley Police as well as the British Transport Police received reports that a man was seen carrying a fireman at the city’s railway station along Elder Gate.
Armed officers from TVP [Thames Valley Police] attended the scene almost immediately and challenged the man in question.
The force has since confirmed that shots were fired by the authorities.
They said: “Life-saving actions were immediately taken at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at 1.44pm.
“There is not believed to be any further risk to the public at this time.”
“We will provide more details as soon as we are able to.”
A cordon has been put in place.
