PC Ian Brotherton issued his guilty plea in a hearing at the Old Bailey today (January 3), where he will be sentenced on February 27.
It follows an incident on October 12, 2023, where PC Brotherton was driving a marked police van to the scene of an emergency at around 3pm.
Whilst on his way to the call and driving with his lights and sirens on, he crashed with a moped at the junction of Southbury Road and Baird Road.
PC Brotherton stopped at the scene and police officers administered first aid to the moped driver, Cristoper de Cavalho Guedes.
The 26-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment where he later died.
The incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct and PC Brotherton was placed on restricted duties, including being disqualified from driving temporarily.
He will face a misconduct hearing following the conclusion of criminal proceedings.
Det Chf Supt Caroline Haines said: “My thoughts and sympathy remain with the family and friends of Cristopher de Carvalho Guedes at this enormously difficult time.

“They have lost a loved one due to the careless driving of one of our officers and, while the judicial process has now concluded and PC Brotherton has admitted his guilt, I know there is little I can say that will alleviate the pain they will be suffering.
“Police drivers are trained to the highest standards and while they have certain exemptions when driving police vehicles on public roads, they know they are accountable should their actions fall below these standards.
“While he (PC Brotherton) has shown remorse for his actions, it is right that he has been held to account for his actions.”
