Carmen Mortali, who works at the Sutton High Street branch in Sutton, began her journey with the fast-food chain in 1980 at the Balham restaurant and has since worked at branches in Mitcham and Sutton.
Her “dedication, warmth, and unwavering commitment” have left a lasting impression on customers and colleagues alike.
Carmen said: “I’m incredibly proud to have been part of the McDonald’s family for 45 years.
“Over the decades, I’ve seen so much change, but one thing has always stayed the same: the unwavering support I’ve received, both professionally and personally.
“Many ask why I don’t just retire, but this job gives me purpose.
“I love what I do, I love the people I work with, and I still look forward to coming in for every shift.”
Starting as a crew member, Carmen’s natural flair for hospitality led her into customer care, and she now serves as a customer experience lead, ensuring every guest feels welcome.
Her milestone year coincided with McDonald’s own 50th anniversary, and she was invited to speak on stage at the company’s annual general meeting at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, where she addressed an audience of more than 2,500 people.
Shanu Subra, the franchisee who runs the Sutton restaurant, said: “People are truly at the heart of our business, and Carmen embodies that spirit in every way.
“Her dedication over the past 45 years is nothing short of extraordinary, and I’m so pleased she shared her story at last year’s AGM – speaking in front of such a huge audience is no mean feat, but Carmen smashed it and it was such a proud moment for all of us.
“As a franchisee, moments like this fill me with immense pride and gratitude and are a powerful reminder of the incredible people who make our business what it is.”
McDonald’s said it remains committed to supporting employees of all ages by providing flexible work arrangements, including part-time and adaptable shifts.
This approach is particularly valued by mature workers seeking a better work-life balance or supplemental income, and the company values the “reliability, maturity and customer service skills” they bring.
McDonald’s said it continues to promote an age-inclusive culture and takes pride in offering a workplace where individuals of all ages feel genuinely welcomed and valued.
