Residents in Mathews Park Avenue had their bins collected yesterday (February 25) for the first time since February 4.
Oli Goss spoke to the Recorder yesterday only hours before the bins were finally collected.
He said: “It’s outrageous, we all pay our council tax the same as everyone else in Newham, but for some inexplicable reason the residents of Mathews Park Avenue are being ignored by Newham Council.
“I’m baffled as to how such a major oversight happened in the first place.

“We appear to have been singled out, I can’t see the same issue happening on our neighbouring streets.
“It’s not as if our road has suddenly evaporated into thin air, it’s been here for 130 years, so they know where we are – we haven’t miraculously figured out a way to live and not produce waste overnight.”
Oli explained that he was also concerned for children who attend Park Primary School on the same street who were having to “hurdle overflowing bins”.
He continued: “What’s also frustrating is that our recycling bins are being collected, so you’d assume there is some form of communication between teams, but there clearly isn’t.”
Another resident on Mathews Park Avenue, Marc Adnitt, described the situation as “inconvenient and unpleasant”.
He added: “When they failed to empty the bins the first time, we notified the council, who sent the rubbish collectors to empty our rubbish – but then ignored the rest of the bins on the street.
Oli said that despite residents making reports to the council, the bins remained uncollected (Image: Marc Adnitt) “Since then, we have tried to make do. Everyone stuffs as much as they can into their bins, but I’ve noticed a lot of residents have decided to take it on themselves and transport it to the dump.
“I’ve also seen vast amounts chucked onto the street with the public bins, so it eventually gets collected there, and you can’t really blame people for that, particularly if they don’t have a car.
“Our area is next to the park that was recently referred to in an estate agent listing as the Hampstead of Stratford, but it’s more like Naples at the moment- and not in a good way.”
The Recorder contacted Newham Council for a comment yesterday afternoon, before the bins were collected in the early evening.
A Newham Council spokesperson said: “The council has investigated this complaint as a matter of urgency – and has concluded there was a breakdown in the domestic waste collection service to this location as a result of a change in crew routes.
“When a crew is allocated to a new route, the details of that route should be uploaded onto our digital system. This did not happen in this case and we are investigating internally to find out why.
“In the meantime we would like to sincerely apologise to the residents of Mathews Park Avenue for the disruption and inconvenience caused.
“We have acted to clear the backlog of waste and will continue to monitor collections at this location to ensure future collections run smoothly.”
