This weekend (May 2 – May 4), Margate will be hosting a two-day vintage weekend celebration with film screenings, street parties, food and vintage displays, marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 8.
This popular seaside town on the Kent coast with its Blue Flag Beaches, charming Old Town and attractions is just 90 minutes from Bromley South by train.
Over the weekend the seaside town will host an array of events (with many free) to mark the end of World War II back in 1945, with proceeds raised supporting The Veterans Association Birchington.
The celebrations will take place across Margate including Margate’s Old Town, Upper High Street, Marine Terrace, Market Place, The Centre, Cliftonville, and NorthDown Brewery.
The event will feature nostalgic vintage-themed window displays at many of its shops, as well as live music from acts such as Si Cranstou and film screenings.
Alongside the entertainment, many food vendors will also be serving themed food and drinks, with over 20 businesses involved in the festivities.
A raffle will also be run on the day, featuring locally donated prizes with tickets available at £1 each, with all proceeds going towards the chosen cause.
With mild and sunny weather forecast on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures expected to hit highs of 12 °C in Kent, this bank holiday weekend also makes for the perfect time to visit the seaside this Bank Holiday weekend.
Margate is home to two Blue Flag Beaches – St Mildred’s Bay and Minnis Bay – the latter within a 22-minute bus ride of Margate Old Town.
For those of you looking for a touch of nostalgia, Margate Main Sands – just a 4-minute walk from the Old Town – is the perfect English seaside location complete with amusement arcades, rides and a promenade.
Margate Main Sands is a popular sandy beach in Margate, a short walk from the town’s many attractions like the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery, Dreamland and The Shell Grotto.
