Officers were called to reports of a pedestrian walking between junction 6 and junction 5 at around 4.15am today (August 22).
Police attempted to engage with the man who assaulted an officer before fleeing and crossing the central reservation onto the anticlockwise carriageway.
He was last seen disappearing into the bushes alongside the road.
A temporary road closure was put in place, but he was not located.
The carriageways were reopened at around 5.45am.
Investigations into the circumstances continue.
A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “Officers were called to the clockwise carriageway of the M25 at around 4.15am this morning following reports of a pedestrian walking towards traffic between J6 and J5.
“Officers attended and attempted to engage with the man, who assaulted one of the officers before making off and crossing the central reservation onto the anticlockwise carriageway.
“He was last seen leaving the carriageway and disappearing into the bushes alongside the road.
“A temporary road closure was put in place while a search was carried out. The man was not located, and the carriageways were reopened at around 5.45am.
