South East Coast Ambulance Service was called at 8.35am today (November 25) to reports of a crash involving two lorries and a car on the M20 between junctions 9 and 8.
Multiple ambulance crews, critical care paramedics and the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex attended.
A man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin has been informed.
The driver of another vehicle was airlifted to a London hospital with serious injuries.
The coastbound carriageway has since reopened, although traffic is still moving slowly as tailbacks clear.
Police are now appealing for witnesses.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Witnesses are sought following a fatal collision on the M20 near Lenham.
“The incident happened as a white Mercedes lorry, a black Nissan Qashqai and a white Scania articulated lorry were travelling on the London-bound carriageway of the motorway, between junctions 9 and 8.
“The vehicles were involved in a collision at 8.27am on Tuesday 25 November 2025.
“Emergency services attended the scene and the driver of the Nissan, a man in his 30s, was confirmed to be deceased at the scene.
“His next of kin has been informed.
“The driver of the Mercedes was taken by air ambulance to a London hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
“Officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are carrying out enquiries and urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the vehicles before the collision, to contact them.”
