Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said that it was called to the fire on the M11 between junction 9 and 8 just after 12pm today (July 13).
The motorway was temporarily shut in both directions due to smoke blowing across the carriageways.
It is understood that the fire caused the minibus to rupture its fuel tank, causing a spillage across the motorway.
Crews from Stansted, Newport, Saffron Walden and Harlow attended the scene and extinguished the fire at around 12.45pm.
There were no reports of casualties.
National Highways said at around 3pm that the motorway had reopened after “complex recovery and clear-up works”, but warned that delays persisted.
