Luke Cusack, 21, died following a collision involving an HGV and two cars between junctions eight and seven on June 16.

Another man was also seriously injured and the driver of the lorry, a 57 year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a statement, Luke’s family said: “Luke was a bright, strong-willed young man, known for his determination and unique energy.

“He had a rare gift for unexpected conversations, blending humour, insight, curiosity and knowledge.

“He lived with quiet strength and deep conviction, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

“His smile was big and unforgettable, and his laugh-contagious and full of life.

“Luke had dreams and plans. He was building a future on his own terms, chasing his goals with quiet focus and unwavering drive.

“He approached life with intention, spoke with honesty, and made even small moments feel meaningful.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to the emergency services and the witnesses that were there.

“Thank you for your courage, compassion, and care during such a heart-breaking moment. Your presence meant more than words can ever say.”

They added: “As a family, we are shattered. There are no words. Our lives will never be the same.

“As we grieve, we gently ask for privacy and space to begin processing this unimaginable loss in our own time and way.”

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident, should contact Essex Police, quoting reference 0691 of June 16.
