London’s cosiest pubs, The Gun
The Gun’s website describes the pub as being “steeped in history and offering striking river views”.
Renowned as one of the best riverside pubs in London, The Gun is set in a Grade II listed building and has a terrace overlooking the River Thames.
The pub dates to as early as the 18th century and took its name from a cannon which was fired to celebrate the opening of the West India Import Docks in 1802.
In the late 18th century, Lord Nelson often visited the Gun to meet Lady Emma Hamilton in a room upstairs in secret.
Now, the pub is a popular spot, praised by locals for its “delicious” meals.
The Gun offers a selection of meals, including grilled stone bass, slow braised beef cheek, venison loin, butter poached chicken and beer battered haddock.
On Sundays, the pub serves up roast dinners with the choice of braised lamb shoulder, sirloin of beef, whole corn-fed chicken and roasted porchetta.
Visitors to The Guns have flocked to Tripadvisor to praise the local establishment, as one recent guest wrote: “If you’re after a relaxed riverside pub with a dash of history and a killer view of the Thames, The Gun Docklands is the one.
